I went to my website and I added dates to the calendar. Although I have kept the school calendar up-to-date, I have not gone to my personal page to put dates on that calendar. The other section of my site I decided to focus on tonight was "Links". When I first established my page, I had one link and have added nothing else since. I added two new categories in addition to the one that was already there, and then posted new links for students. These sites are safe, fun and educational sites that children can use from home.
I have been wondering, however, if the links would be easier to access if I posted them on the school web page than on my personal web page.

You are in a somewhat difficult position with the choice of personal webpage or school web page...I agree with you...the links would probably more accessible to more people on the school web page. What you could do is post them on the school web page..under Parents link...and then refer to them and provide the link on your principal web page.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this might be a great time to suggest to the teachers that have websites to begin thinking about posting reading and math resources for the summer...the booklist module would be great for parents to be able to access to suggest books for summer reading...maybe suggest that they add a category for "Summer Reading." I know I would have loved to have had a website available to look up age-appropriate and educational books when my nieces and nephews were growing up...instead I just went to the bookstore and was left to look at the book cover! It would have been so great to have had a list of books that the teachers thought would be helpful.
Great suggestions, Carol. I'd like to learn how to give the links fancy buttons or keys that make them larger (some of the Walled Lake Elementary Schools have cool links for parents and students). I will start working on this with teachers - summer resource ideas.
ReplyDeleteI can see how keeping up your own personal web page could seem like double duty for you. Maybe it could be a good option for posting links or ideas that would be beneficial to other principals in the district. I could see them checking each others sites for suggestions/tools for dealing with common (or uncommon) building issues that arise.
