Essential #5 - Google Documents

I had heard about google documents, but didn't know how to use the application. This was an excellent essential for me. It was easy to understand and made the program easy to utilize. There are so many ways I can see that this will be beneficial, especially in maintaining student database information (i.e., at-risk student lists in reading that each grade level can access, incident reports (number and level of severity) on individual students building-wide, NCA team reports, etc.). I can also see where certain documents that I want to edit can be done through this program and my secretary and I not having to email them back and forth.  Exciting to finally learn to utilize a program I have heard about and know is being used by others in the district.

  1. I agree! A colleague and I just discussed this at the MACUL conference. A behavior plan sheet could be accessed by all teachers that have contact with your student throughout the day, no paper is wasted and we have a permanent record to use in the future. We also wanted to have a paper trail for all interventions tried from the classroom teacher, learning specialist, ESAP, etc that can be used in an ERM. Often, we don't document because there is not a place to put it. This would change that.

We've also discussed setting up a password protected classroom for all of our EPT/ERM schedules, forms, etc that would allow only 2 people to alter anything but all of the staff could access to download forms, see the calendar, etc.

  2. I have been working with Cindy on using Google Docs and how it can help her and other principals. It is looking like she is going to set up a PD for the other principals to come and learn about it. It looks like you may be the one teaching it!
